Cultural Heritage and Textiles Tours

I invite you on a one‐week journey to discover the multicultural diversity and beauty of the Țara Silvaniei ( region in Transylvania, Romania).

Through this experience, you will learn more about an area that is less frequented by tourists but represents a deep, heartfelt heritage for us who live here.

Our appreciation for the local cultural elements and the work of the women who came before us led us to establish a collection of textiles and traditional folk costumes representative to this region. This is how our project was born.

In the following years, my mother, Maria Fițiu, began creating murune (traditional adornments), and many elderly women who had stored their dowries in attics started persuading their children and grandchildren to recognize the value of their heritage and to treat it with greater care.

Many of these women have rediscovered the joy of sewing in their later years, and now spend their winters creating pieces for their children and grandchildren. These skilled women are passing on their knowledge to the younger generations, ensuring that traditional sewing and embroidery techniques continue to live.

Throughout the trip, we will explore traditional textiles, embroidery, wooden churches, traditional houses and dowry rooms that tell personal life stories. You’ll also discover the charm of the county’s iconic tiny blue cottages, savor delicious local cuisine, and visit centuries-old painted wooden churches that serve as monuments to the region’s deep cultural roots.

I will introduce you to the places and people that hold special meaning for me. You will meet local elders—women eager to share their life stories and traditions, invite you into their homes, and show you their treasured textiles and dowry chests. These encounters will be immersive experiences, where you will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops, learning traditional embroidery and stitching techniques.

A special highlight will be our visit to several wooden churches, many of which date back centuries. We will be accompanied by a local guide and professor, who will provide insights into the history and cultural significance of these sacred places. These churches are not only architectural marvels but also repositories of collective memory. Although no longer in use, these churches continue to serve as an important link between past and present.

Hands-on Embroidery Workshops

Previous participants in this tour have greatly appreciated the hands-on nature of the activities, especially the practical aspects of the workshops. Based on their feedback, I have decided to dedicate an entire day to sewing and embroidery workshops. You’ll have the chance to learn directly from skilled artisans and take home the knowledge of these traditional techniques.

A Personal Experience

This tour is designed to foster genuine connections between you and the local community. I believe that meaningful travel is not about the number of places you visit, but about the depth of your experiences. To ensure that each participant has a truly personalized experience, I am offering only three spots on this tour. The small group size will allow us to connect more deeply with one another and the people we meet along the way.

Accommodation & Dining

For most of the tour, you will stay in a beautifully restored traditional house built in 1903 and in a dedicated bedroom in our workshop building. Renovated in 2015, the rooms are adorned with textiles and furniture from my grandmother’s dowry, creating a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere. Each morning, we will gather in the kitchen to prepare breakfast together, using fresh, local ingredients sourced from the village market or nearby farms. For lunch and dinner, we’ll be treated to traditional meals prepared by the socăcițe, skilled local women known for their ability to cook large quantities of food for weddings, funerals, and other important events. Their dishes will give you a true taste of Sălaj’s rich culinary heritage.

• Baking together a traditional cheese and herbs bread, guided by my grandmother

• Ceramic decoration workshop

Day 7:

• Slow morning in the garden and library

Tur Cultural. Textile și patrimoniu din Țara Silvaniei / SOLD OUT

Te invit într-o călătorie de o săptămână pentru a descoperi diversitatea multiculturală și frumusețea Țării Silvaniei .

Prin aceasta experiență vei descoperi mai multe despre o zonă mai puțin turistică, dar care pentru noi, cei care locuim aici, reprezintă o puternică moștenire de suflet.

Aprecierea pentru elementele locale de patrimoniu și pentru munca femeilor dinaintea noastră ne-a determinat să punem bazele unei colecții de textile și port popular specifice zonei. Așa a luat naștere proiectul nostru.

În anii următori, mama mea, Maria Fițiu a început să creeze murune - (poadoabe tradiționale) și multe femei în vârstă care și-au depozitat zestrea în poduri au început să-și convingă copiii și nepoții să vadă valoarea moștenirii lor și să o trateze cu mai multă grijă.

Multe dintre acestea au redescoperit plăcerea cusutului la o vârstă înaintată și petrec acum iernile creând piese pentru copii și nepoți. Aceste femei pricepute învață acum generațiile mai tinere, asigurându-se că tehnicile tradiționale de cusătură și broderie continuă să trăiască.

De-a lungul turului, îți voi prezenta locurile și oamenii care au o semnificație specială pentru mine. Veți întâlni localnici- femei care ne vor arăta lăzile lor de zestre și țesături realizate de-a lungul anilor. Două puncte importante ale călătoriei reprezintă atelierele practice destinate tehnicilor tradiționale de broderie și cusături și un tur a câtorva dintre frumoasele biserici de lemn din zonă. De asemenea, vei descoperi farmecul arhitecturii vernaculare și vei savura preparate din bucătăria locală, fiind cazați timp de o săptămână în Casa Albastră din Marin

Ateliere practice de cusut și brodat după modele locale

Participantele turului anterior au apreciat foarte mult natura practică a activităților, în special atelierele de cusut. Pe baza feedback-ului lor, am decis să dedicăm o zi întreagă atelierelor de cusut și broderie tradițională sub îndrumarea doamnelor talentate de la Habă la Jibou. Veți avea șansa de a învăța să coaseți modele locale luând acasă cunoștințele din spatele acestor tehnici.

O experiență personală

Acest tur este conceput pentru a crea legături atât între participanți, cât și între tine și comunitatea locală. Sunt de părere că o călătorie semnificativă nu constă în numărul locurilor pe care le vizitezi, ci în profunzimea experiențelor trăite. Pentru a ne asigura că fiecare participant are o experiență cu adevărat deosebită, oferim doar trei locuri în acest tur. Dimensiunea redusă a grupului ne va permite să cunoaștem mai bine oamenii pe care îi întâlnim pe parcurs.

Cazare & Masă

Pentru cea mai mare parte a turului, veți sta într-o casă tradițională frumos restaurată, construită în 1903. Fiind renovată în 2015, casa este decorată cu textile și mobilier din zestrea bunicii mele, creând o atmosferă confortabilă , creativă și nostalgică. În fiecare dimineață, ne vom întâlni în bucătărie pentru a pregăti micul dejun împreună, folosind ingrediente proaspete, locale, provenite din piață sau de la fermele din sat. Prânzul și cina constau în preparate tradiționale, pregătite în fiecare zi în bucătăria bunicilor din sat.
